Cacio e Pepe, Assisi

Cacio Pepe Assisi

Italy is a foodie paradise, but the town of Assisi isn’t always known for its food. Which is why I was delighted when we stumbled upon an adorable food shop int he center of town with flavorful sausages, melt-in-your-mouth meats, and the best jams I’ve had anywhere in Italy.

We’re heading back to Assisi later this winter and you can bet I’ll be stocking up on strawberry jam and having sausages for breakfast every day.

If you’re headed to Assisi, definitely stop by.

Address: Via Portica 27

Hours: Daily 8:00 – 21:00

What (else) to do in Assisi

The best meal in town is – absolutely hands down – at Osteria Piazzetta delle Erbe. Ask for the chef’s recommendation, pick a brightly-colored table at a window, and enjoy.

In between meals, Assisi is a stunning place to explore. The old city is perched atop a hill and if you keep wandering upward, you’ll stumble upon a castle and some excellent views of the green patchwork countryside laid out around you.

Wanderers will appreciate the picturesque hike down the hill to a nunnery-turned-local-goods-shop. For more things to do in Assisi, Georgette always has good suggestions and savvy local Rebecca is another person whose opinions I trust (plus, she rents out a gorgeous apartment in the center of town, in case you’re looking for a vacation rental).
