Surprise! I guess I’m officially a cat rescuer

As you may remember, last year I unexpectedly rescued a kitten from the undercarriage of a car, fattened her up, got her the vet care she needed, and found her a forever home with my lovely neighbors.

Apparently the universe was taking notes and decided that every summer is going to be cat rescue summer.

This year, it’s two young strays who have slowly warmed up to me as I started feeding them and have gotten brave enough to even step foot into the house briefly before skittering back to the safety of the terrace.

Everyone, meet my rescues-in-progress:

The gray girl is a sweetheart, coming to me for cuddles even before food. She’s also braver than her orange friend and was the first to let me feed her and touch her. I am not 100% sure if she’s a stray (vs. someone’s outdoor cat), so I bought a little neck bandana and wrote a note on the tag asking that if there is an owner they let me know). Next step (if no one responds) is to take her to the vet and check for a microchip (while we also check on her health overall).

Orange cat I’m very sure has no one. He’s way more skittish (though just yesterday he decided he likes head scritches), visibly flea-ridden, and very visibly not sterilized. Yesterday, he got brave enough (read: close enough) for me to treat him for fleas and internal parasites (with her I’m waiting to see if someone claims her before I treat). And next step will be seeing about getting him sterilized.

Which is where y’all can come in. Because yet again I was not planning for this financially. So if you want to chip in, it’s much appreciated!

You can send on Buy Me a Coffee (just note that it’s for the kitties) or reach out if you’d prefer to send something via Cashapp or Venmo.

So far I’ve spent about 62 euros on veterinary things (including flea treatment and de-worming pills – Luna’s consult is also on that invoice but it’s not itemized, so I don’t know what portion was for the kitties), about 60 on food and other supplies (including building a cat shelter in the backyard in case of rain or cold nights). And I’m waiting to hear if there’s a way to get their sterilization covered by a local organization or if I’ll need to fundraise for it (and how much). More on that soon, but I expect the expenses will keep flowing (and any overflow will go toward either their future expenses or other animal-care related expenses because the universe seems bent on sending me cats.

Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to contribute.
