Lago di Fusine in Summer & Fall, A Photo Essay

When you move around as much as we do, it’s unusual to see the same place in multiple seasons. August in Ljubljana is simply summer. January in the Swiss Alps is simply winter.

Which is why it was a special kind of treat this September to watch summer fade so quickly into fall–to go from bright green and blinding blue to orange, brown, and gold.

At the beginning of our northern Slovenia adventure in early September, I took a cycle ride across the Italian border to Lago di Fusine and captured it in blue and green against stormy skies.

Then, just before we left Slovenia, in late September, I dragged Chad back to the lake to experience it as the colors turned.

These photos are the result of those two adventures.

First, summer:
