Hiking Fort du Bregille, Besançon

Fort du Bregille

Another day. Another hike. If you love abandoned places (a fort!), vast greenery, and quiet trails, this one’s for you.

Want to experience the hike for yourself? Here are some relevant details:

Directions & hiking times

I started hiking near 2 Chem. du Fort de Bregille and it the Google directions to the trailhead were quite easy to follow. Once on the trail, it took me less than 45 minutes to get to the fort and then I hiked through and around the fort for several hours (you could easily do less and still experience a lot of beauty). On the trail itself, there are some split-offs that aren’t marked. As a general rule, I followed whatever trail appeared to be continuing up the hill.

Dogs on trails

I saw several dogs out here – all is well here if you want to bring your pooch!

Is the trail crowded?

Not at all! I did it in June and early in the morning and didn’t see another soul until maybe 10am. Even then, it just seems to be a handful of dog-walkers, runners, etc.

What to bring

As always with hiking, wear good shoes (I like Salomon’s trail running shoes) and weather-appropriate clothing. Bring plenty of water (there are no fill-up stations).

Happy hiking!
