After hiking for 10 days through the former region of Gevaudan, it was time to settle in and explore one place more thoroughly. That place was Besançon – a charming riverfront town in the northeast of France. I’d passed through during my cycle ride across France and always thought I’d come back. So when my friend said she wanted to explore the area this summer, I gave my heartiest yes and joined her for a month in a town that is well worth the time.
