This leaf-strewn hike down the hill from Assisi starts just up the hill from the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi. When you walk out the doors of the church, keep left up the hill and make your first left through the stone wall. A cheerful man in a ticket booth will give you a free ticket and ask for a donation (leave what you can). And then you’ll begin an easy journey down the hill, following signs and reading about preservation projects (which your donation helps fund). It is, as you can see, a really wonderful walk, even on a foggy winter day.
