Win a copy of my favorite book!
One of the best books I’ve read in years is finally (FINALLY!) about to hit a bookstore shelf near you – and to celebrate, I am doing a giveaway! Three Kindle books sent out to three random winners. All you need to do is scroll down and leave a comment.
The book in question is Jessica Lewis’ YA debut: Bad Witch Burning. It’s the story of a Black teen who figures out she can raise the dead…and sees it as a path to get rich quick. The only problem? The dead aren’t as docile as she thought.
The book is a perfect mix of breathless fantasy adventure and a character who has to confront deep, emotional wounds. I laughed, cheered, got teary-eyed, and stayed up way too late because I couldn’t put it down.
The book comes out August 24th and now is your chance to get a free pre-order (which means it’d show up on your Kindle the day it comes out).
Important note: This giveaway is for three Kindle versions of the book, so you’ll need a Kindle app in order to read.
So, how will the giveaway go? Easy. Just leave a comment here on this blog post (scroll down to do so) before midnight EST on July 19th. Make sure to use your correct email in the email box (it won’t show up publicly, but that’s how I can see it and contact you if you’re a winner).
I’ll use a random number generator to pick three winners and notify them after that date. If the original winner(s) don’t respond within 3 days, I’ll pick a replacement winner(s) and notify that person/people. Then I’ll pre-order the Kindle book for the three winners and when the book comes out, it’ll show up your Kindle!

For fans of Lovecraft Country and Candyman comes a witchy story full of Black girl magic as one girl’s dark ability to summon the dead offers her a chance at a new life, while revealing to her an even darker future.
Katrell can talk to the dead. And she wishes it made more money. She’s been able to support her unemployed mother–and Mom’s deadbeat-boyfriend-of-the-week–so far, but it isn’t enough. Money’s still tight, and to complicate things, Katrell has started to draw attention. Not from this world–from beyond. And it comes with a warning: STOP or there will be consequences.
Katrell is willing to call the ghosts on their bluff; she has no choice. What do ghosts know of having sleep for dinner? But when her next summoning accidentally raises someone from the dead, Katrell realizes that a live body is worth a lot more than a dead apparition. And, warning or not, she has no intention of letting this lucrative new business go.
Only magic isn’t free, and dark forces are coming to collect. Now Katrell faces a choice: resign herself to poverty, or confront the darkness before it’s too late.
