Where to eat (and drink) in Epernay
Foodies, step up! Here are the best meals (and drinks) I had while in Epernay, France:
L’Oeil de Boeuf
Hands down, the best food we had in Epernay came from this slightly-off-the-beaten-track restaurant where you’ll find creme brûlée fired at the table, Champagne perfectly chilled, and menus only in French. I highly recommend the duck with peach compote and the escargot.
Matin Gourmand
If brunch is what you’re after, this wood-toned restaurant in the center is your place. Mimosas are pretty watered down and expensive, but the food was delicious.
Castellane (Champagne producer tour)
While the tour itself can be a bit hard to follow because the cellars are so echoey, the tower views and Champagne tasting are worth it. Choose the two-glass tasting because that second glass is a choice of four options: a sweet Champagne, a rose Champagne, a five-year aged special Champagne, and a fancy-pants eight-year aged option.
Kitsch Cafe
If you need a cozy spot to work or grab a coffee, Kitsch is it. The coffee’s good. The pastries are lovely. The staff are the nicest. And there are gluten-free and vegan options available.
Champagne Au Prix De La Propriete
Want to taste six different Champagnes for the infinitely reasonable price of 15 euros? This little shop has an outdoor patio and a Champagne tasting that is one of my best memories.
