Did I mention that my novel is finished?
Once a novel is as done as a writer can get it on her own, she turns to a handful of what we call beta readers. Avid readers or other writers who read the book and give feedback before it goes through its final revisions.
I’ve already had a handful of people read through my first few chapters and I’ve started collecting beta readers to read the full manuscript…but I need a few more.
[Update: I think I have what I need for this round! If you are interested in beta reading for me in future, keep an eye on the blog. If there are any major changes to the book in this round, I may enlist a second round of readers.]
If reading the manuscript and giving your honest feedback on characters, scenes, and all that jazz sounds like a blast to you, I’d love to hear from you.
Here’s the back-of-the-book teaser:
It’s been 25 years since the Nazis won the Second World War.
The Jews have mostly disappeared. The Reich has expanded across three continents. And a single wrong word could get you killed.
It took two words to kill Markus Schneider’s father. Two words nine-year-old Markus said without thinking. Two words that brought the Nazis to his modest Austrian doorstep—and shattered his life.
Now an adult, Markus is guilt-wracked, unemployed, and lost. His only friend in the world is Frank—a man he grew up with and looked up to. A man who is now a high-ranking Nazi official on a mission to root out and destroy anti-state thinkers, rebels, and Jews.
When Frank recruits Markus to drive a truckload of prisoners to a concentration camp, Markus will be faced with an impossible choice: be complicit in the murder of children or become the person his best friend is hunting. His decision will change not only their friendship and their lives, but the future of the Reich itself.
Intrigued? I’m looking for a couple beta readers who are:
:: Avid readers
Read at least a couple dozen books a year? I’m looking for you.
:: Lovers of thrillers/page-turners
You can like lots of genres, but my ideal readers are people who like their books with a little suspense.
:: Willing to read the whole book in June
If you end up not liking it, you don’t have to read the whole thing. But I’d like to get people on board who are planning on reading the whole novel. And if you do put it down? All I ask is that you indicate where and why it lost your attention and that you get back to me before July 1st.
:: Willing to be honest and also kind
I’ll give you some specific questions to answer and I want your honest opinions. No need to sugar coat things for me. But do, of course, be kind. “This whole book sucks,” isn’t helpful. “I was confused about x scene because of y” is!
[Thanks again to everyone who submitted their details! I will be touching base with everyone by Jun 1st!]
