Travel & Inspirational Link Round-Up, September Edition

by gigigriffis

Happy Autumntime friends!

If you know me, you know that September is my favorite time of year, followed closely by October, when here in Europe nights are cooling, leaves are turning, and every year I try to take an active vacation. Cycling across France. Hiking in the Swiss Alps.

This year, I’ve spent the last month in mountainous northern Slovenia, based in Lake Jasna in a gorgeous, comfortable mountain chalet overlooking a lake and surrounded by trails. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to do quite as much hiking and cycling as I’d planning, since it’s been a crazy rainy month. But in between rainstorms, I hit the trails, hiking straight up mountains, along protected wetlands, and around pretty mountain lakes.

And when it was raining? I did a lot of reading, some research into a new novel idea, and a good bit of internet browsing.

Which brings me to the point of this post: Links.

Travel and places:

:: On deep friendships and long walks

:: Important: What It Feels Like to Be a Black Man in America

:: Travel tips: 36 Hours in Baden Baden

:: Related: What to do in Zurich

:: My experience of Morocco wasn’t quite as bad as this account, but I did feel uncomfortable often and after 10 days, I left feeling really angry at men in general. If you’re planning a trip, this is worth reading.

Writerly & entertainment stuff:

:: Why one teen doesn’t like YA.

:: One of my favorite recent reads? The lyrically, beautifully written BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA.

Other gorgeous, important things:

:: I’ve never felt the desire to be a mother, but if I ever do, this is exactly the kind of motherhood I’d choose.

:: 1000 People Sing “Drag Me Down”

I enjoyed this compilation very much! So much thought was put into choosing them, and they are beautifully written, heartfelt pieces or hard hitting and informative. Thank you for pointing these out!
