After four months of a meditation-like staying-put state of being in northern Arizona, it’s time yet again to hit the proverbial road. I’ve got a fully packed hatchback car with space set up for Luna. I’ve got a box of paperback books (because what road trip is complete without some old-fashioned reading materials). And, for the first time ever, I’ve got a travel partner.
And as of May 1st (which will be a couple days ago by the time this posts), we’re off, crossing first the US and then Canada on four wheels.
I already shared our itinerary, but here are some updates:
1.I’m scheduling a meet-up in Minneapolis! I’ve heard from several readers there and it sounds like this would be a good place to have a fun little traveler meet-up. The meet-up is May 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge. If the weather’s good enough, we’ll sit on the patio and Luna will attend. Let me know if you’re planning on coming so that I can get us a big enough table.
2. We’re going to Keystone, South Dakota. Originally, we were planning a stop in Rapid City and I’ll confess that I wasn’t terribly excited (in fact, I didn’t even mention it in the original itinerary). It was mostly just a convenient place to pause between the two more interesting stops of Jackson, Wyoming, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Then, I found the Powder House Lodge in Keystone, which isn’t far from Rapid City and looks much more compelling. I’m now officially excited about the leg of the journey.
3. We’re extending our time in Quebec City. Every time I mention QC to someone who has been, they rave about how wonderful it is. The trip itinerary has shifted a few times, first including three days in QC, then just two, and now we’re up to four. I’m pretty happy about that as it’s one of the places I’m most excited to explore. And the reason it’s possible to extend our stay? We had some lovely accommodation offers from the interesting and very different Hotel Chateau Bellevue and Auberge Internationale de Quebec.
4. And we’ve got almost all our nights booked! New additions to our accommodation line-up, include:
:: Extended Stay America’s Richmond Broad Street property (P.S. I just signed up as an affiliate, so if you want book with them, use this link and I’ll get a little commission, at no extra cost to you)
:: Poppi’s super-cute-looking Guesthouse in outdoorsy Revelstoke
:: And, to end the trip, a log cabin in Whistler’s Riverside Resort
P.S. What are your summer travel plans?
