• Where Should I Go?

Posted on January 30, 2012 in travel tales

    My darling readers,

Today I am feeling restless. Next month is fairly wide open for me. And, so, I am looking at February and thinking about travel.

    So…I’m asking for your suggestions.

The places that came to mind immediately are:

    Belize
Pros: I’ve been curious about Belize for a while, it’s not a far flight, it’s warm, it’s lush and green and it’s new and different.
Cons: I have to find a dog-sitter and I am not sure if I’m feeling super social–like meeting tons of new people–at the moment.

    Pennsylvania and/or DC
Pros: some of my most dear friends live there, I can take Luna, I’d have free places to stay.
    Cons: snow.

    Panama
Pros: there is a housesitting job I might be able to get, which means free lodging, it’s new and different, warmth.
Cons:  lots of alone time, dog-sitter finding.

    Hawaii
Pros: warm, lush, laid-back, it’s new and different, easy access to WIFI if I need to work…and did I mention that the weather is awesome?
Cons: possibly lots of alone time, dog-sitter finding, probably expensive and I believe that I read that this is a bad time of year to try and hike or kayak the Na Pali Coast, which is one of the main things I want to do in Hawaii.

So…any other places I should toss up on my list? Consider that: I may be working part of the time that I’m gone and I am really tired of the cold and will only brave cold locales if I am seeing people I love.

    Leave your thoughts below.

Come visit us in DC! It’s really not that cold here (and no snow yet to speak of). You’d be more than welcome to stay with us, but you’d have to sneak Luna in because our building doesn’t allow pets.

Given the criteria my suggestion is…

    Barbados (and/or Grenada).
Pros: English speaking, low-key, readily available internet and only a 3-hour time diff, somewhat culturally interesting (as far as islands go), warm weather and lovely beaches for snorkeling and kayaking, small and easy to explore alone and in a short time, rum.
Cons: English speaking, expensive in places, dog-sitter finding.

Tropical—so Belize or Hawaii out of your list. But I would go to Roatan (island off the coast of Honduras) cause I fell in love with it last year…and not too far or too expensive.

It’s going to be almost 70 degrees tomorrow in DC, for the record. I ate lunch outside today on a bench in the sunshine. Global warming has some fringe benefits. Also, I’m biased.

BR: Ha, but I thought you wanted me to wait till March.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

May not be a good time for kayaking in Hawaii, but it is a good time for whale watching. ^_^

What about PR or DR? Both easily accessible and cheap (well DR is). You speak spanish so that shouldn’t be a problem and you are at the peak time for whale watching excursions!

    Cons: Luna…

Thanks, all! I decided on Belize!
