Walking the World: Clisson, France

by Gigi Griffis

For those who love long rambles through the countryside, some good news: the lovely little riverside town of Clisson, just 20 minutes by train from Nantes, is the perfect place to wander.

After a visit to the castle ruins, make your way across the little stone bridge to the other bank. If you wander to your right along the river, you’ll come to the entrance of a park. The park itself is lovely, though small, so to extend your trip, just wander out the park’s other exit and along the country road to the right. After about 300 meters, you’ll come to a path with a signpost pointing down the greenway toward the river.

Keep following it and you’ll come to the riverbanks – and several more trail markers, each pointing the way to a different route, some circling back to Clisson and others winding away through the towns to the north.

I walked for two or three hours, but you could easily wander longer.

Gigi, what a great photo editorial. Makes me want to go walk those paths around Clisson someday. Even if I never do … it feels like I already have. Thanks for sharing!
