Open Kitchen: A Ljubljana Food Festival Photo Essay

by Gigi Griffis

When you imagine our month in Ljubljana: imagine us stuffing our faces.

You see, from early spring to late autumn, every single Friday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., there’s an event called Open Kitchen (or, in Slovene, Odprta Kuhna).

During those hours, the best restaurants from all over Slovenia converge in one of the central squares to fill charming wooden booths with culinary delights. Everything from burgers to Egyptian wraps to delicate sushi–all served up fresh, quick, and affordable.

As you might imagine, we went every Friday. For both lunch and dinner.

And if you’re in Ljubljana in the summertime? I suggest you do the same.
