Thursday: Turkey, Starbucks & The Moon

Posted by gigigriffis under minutebyminute

Every year I do a series of entries that I like to call Minute By Minute. Said entries are real time thoughts, happenings and commentary. This year I’ll start with Thanksgiving.

1:02 AM Luna has to potty. This is the main downside to dog ownership. The main downside for her is that after she potties, I want to snuggle her and rub my face in her face, while she wants to sleep.

7:07 AM Wake up from a sad dream. The first sad dream, in fact, since getting Luna. Or at least the first I remember. I used to have them all the time. And despite not having one in months, this is not a great way to start Turkey Day.

7:18 AM Pacify myself by remembering that at least I don’t have to go to work.

7:18 AM Turn on Milo & Otis while Luna lays on her back and chews a white plastic toy with fervor. I find this funny.

7:21 AM Luna notices Milo & Otis and begins whimpering. Friends in the computer screen! Come out, come out and play!

7:36 AM Looks like this.

8:30 AM Hope to start Turkey prep, but the instructions are in my email and all internets that I usually commandeer appear to be not working.

8:57 AM Discover that the turkey will only take a few hours. Put turkey prep on hold, snuggle Luna up in her kennel and head down to Starbucks, where I meet two Ethiopian men studying Pharmaceuticals. We reminisce about Africa.

10:08 AM Am feeling good about portfolio site and blog. Both have been cleaned up and had additional features added in the last hour.

11:08 AM Finishing websites’ to-do list and departing Starbucks.

11:20 AM Puppy-style celebration of me being home. One of the best parts of puppy ownership (so totally cancels out the 1AM potty run).

11:26 AM Return call from Roommate #1, who is fabulous. Sadly, miss her and leave a message.

12:10 PM Begin attempting to nap. On goes The Office. Luna begins running around the bed.

12:48 PM Still not asleep.

1:53 PM Luna beats me to the sleeping punch.

3:57 PM Somewhere along the way, I did fall asleep. Now, wake up terrified due to phone call and subsequent realization that Turkey is probably overcooking.

3:58 PM Luna and I settle in to eat a fine, not overcooked Turkey, which I am chopping up directly in the crock pot.

4:36 PM Delicious Turkey-for-one recipe:
2 TBSP butter
1/4 cup garden veggie whipped cream cheese
1 TBSP soy sauce
1 TBSP parsley
1/2 teaspoon basil, sage and thyme
1/4 teaspoon black pepper and garlic powder
Mix it all up and brush over a 4 or 5-lb turkey breast. Crock pot for 4 or so hours. Mmm.

4:52 PM Luna appears to need a turkey nap.

4:53 PM Wonder if Starbucks is still open. Decide to find out.

5:10 PM Success. Back at Starbucks. Writing things.

7:14 PM Shower steam sets off fire alarm. Consider running outside in towel. Decide, instead, to fan alarm with towel.

9:00 PM Loving “Atonement” — thinking about books made into movies and whether they have a defining feature.

9:27 PM Trick Luna onto bed with a treat. Return to Atonement.
