Interlaken’s Cute Little Christmas Market: A Photo Essay

by Gigi Griffis

‘Tis the season to gorge ourselves on gluhwein (mulled wine) at European Christmas markets against a backdrop of drifting snowflakes, bundled-up neighbors, and houses draped in lights.

And so I’ve found myself at two Christmas markets this December. First, in Innsbruck (sorry, those photos didn’t come out very well) and now in Interlaken, Switzerland, where the small market is full of rustic huts lined up along the park in the center of town.

Here you’ll find Alp cheeses, hot cups of mulled wine, hand-knitted hats, and a hundred charming souvenirs.

Interlaken is cute without Christmas, and no doubt the season makes it cuter. One wants to step into the scene and hang out, people watch, and sink into the word, “gratitude”.

I love all of these photos! Do you like your Sony camera? I have a large Canon but think my next camera will be significantly smaller.

Did you have Luna with you at the market? Are dogs usually allowed at markets?

Yes! I really like the Sony mirrorless! Markets are almost always dog-friendly in Switzerland (and most of the rest of Europe), but Luna didn’t go with me to this one. I have a little less fun worrying about her getting kicked by the crowds, so if I’m going to a busy market, I usually leave her behind.
