We’re Going Back to Europe! Here’s Where We’re Off to Next.

by Gigi Griffis

Big news, friends!

After about eight months away, Chad, Luna, and I are finally headed back to Europe. If you know me, you already know I’m thrilled beyond words. Have you ever visited a place and felt instantly and utterly at home? Felt that you somehow just fit?

For me, that’s how Europe felt. Like an instant fit. An instant joy. A place that echoed my values back to me every day with walkable pedestrian centers and cities designed to be navigated without a car, with fresh markets overflowing with produce every single week, with hundreds of cultures nestled up together, all waiting to be explored.

I did a DNA test recently and it turns out I’m genetically very European.

So maybe my DNA is just screaming yes, yes, this is home!

Whatever it is, Europe is my place. And luckily, it’s Chad’s place too. (And Luna’s, as you can tell from the crazy gleeful photo of her in France above.)

So, I’m sure your first question is where.

Where are we headed?

The first answer is the land of croissants and crepes and Luna’s favorite beaches:

France!

For a few weeks, we’ll be settling ourselves into the Brittany region to adjust from our jet lag, stuff our faces, and take Luna frequently to vast beaches she can whiz back and forth across. My current novel is set mostly in Brittany, so I’ll also be running around doing “research” (e.g. doing the same stuff I normally do, but calling it work) on Medieval castles and seaside forts and lady pirates.

And after that?

It’s off to Prague!

We’ll spend the rest of our schengen time exploring the Czech Republic – a country I’ve not yet been to and have wanted to visit for years.

After that, plans are still up in the air. Chad’s got a cool new project he’ll be working on for the foreseeable future. I’m still doing my usual copywriting, content strategy, and web consulting. And Luna’s plans mainly involve running madly through parks and cycling with me whenever we can.

How is everyone else’s summer shaping up? Let me know in the comments!

That’s so exciting! How does Luna do with the air travel?

Yes! So excited!

Luna is pretty mellow about air travel. She just hangs in her carrier and naps.

Whooohoooo! So excited for you all! We’re hopefully only weeks away from being able to apply for passports for the rugrats, so hopefully we can plan a visit to your side of the pond soon. ;)

I can’t wait to read about your Prague experience. I’m like you–I’ve always wanted to visit, but have never been there (there is so many other places to explore in Europe, as you know).

And I’ll look forward to your details about how to live there. Unlike some of the other travel blogs I follow, you actually write about what it takes to make these dreams happen. As I’ve learned the hard way on my EU trips, details really matter. I really appreciate that aspect of your experiences.

Awesome plans!! I too, have European plans coming up. My mother, my 11 year old daughter, my partner, and I are boarding a plan in early July and will be flying into Paris for a week! Then taking a train to Torino and spending a few good weeks touring northern Italy, eating, exploring, beaching! This is my second time to Europe and I too, have such a strong draw to that amazing continent. After my mother returns home we will stay on a bit longer and Visit Norway, and Ireland, where my partner’s father is from. Cheers!!

Gigi,

Sounds fabulous. Brittany is wonderful. I’m sure you’ll love it, just like Prague which is a “must visit”.
