A Day at Mont-Saint-Michel

by Gigi Griffis

It was a blue-sky day in mid-June when we finally made our way north from Rennes to the famed island of Mont-Saint-Michel. We spent the morning climbing around the ramparts, wandering through tiny gardens, and then walking down into the muddy bay where the tide was sweeping rapidly in.

This is what it looked like.

A remarkable place. Inside is the heart of Mont-Saint-Michel. A community of monks and nuns known as The Community of New Jerusalem. My wife’s cousin is a part of that community and has been from its inception when it first moved there from its parent community in Paris.
