The first thing I see when I look out my window in the mornings here in Brasov is a white-washed fortress on the top of the hill surrounded by trees. Stone walls stretch upward. Rounded turrets peek out from behind sharp corners. And the sun rises behind the hill, throwing pink and orange across the sky behind the fortress every morning.
Still, it took me weeks to stop staring at Cetățuia de pe Strajă from afar and finally wind my way up the hill and into the fortress itself.
This is what I found when I finally did.
