Beautiful Spaces: Where I Stayed in Sevilla, Spain

by Gigi Griffis

After a whirlwind weekend in Rome, Luna and I hopped on a plane and headed to southern Spain. Our first stop was Sevilla—a city known for its sunshine, tapas, and flamenco dancing—where we spent two nights in the elegant and wonderful Corral del Rey, which quickly became one of my top five favorite places I’ve stayed in the past three years of travel (alongside such gems as Playa Escondida and that perfect Parma B&B).

Corral del Rey is a restored 17th-century Palacio and it feels like stepping into another world. The ceilings are sweepingly high with dark wooden beams across them. The furnishings are elegant and tasteful and light, making the room feel large and airy. The bed is wonderfully comfortable. And the staff are helpful, attentive, kind, and always smiling.

One night I even chose to stay in instead of exploring more of Sevilla because I couldn’t resist a long soak in the giant tub with a fizzy lemon beverage (after which I climbed into the bed with my book and fell into a deep, long, and much-needed sleep.

The hotel also has a pretty little restaurant and bar and a rooftop plunge pool (though it was too chilly for that during my own visit) and terrace. The turndown service was lovely (and resulted in some of the best chocolates I’ve ever tasted). And the whole experience felt like a breath of fresh air, a perfect way to kick off my time in Spain.

In other words (and I don’t say this often), you should go. Book yourself a room. Snuggle up in the giant bed. End your days with turndown chocolates. Soak in a giant tub. And lounge on a Sevilla rooftop with a glass of wine in hand.

All my gratitude goes to Corral del Rey for the complementary stay. As always, opinions, compliments, and photos above are my own.

In case you are still in Seville or environs incl. Southern Spain, try a trip to the Alhambra, one of the most beautiful architectural marvels anywhere.

I also reccommend this cute hill in the middle of a plain – Jerez and Jerez de la Frontera famous for its vineyards and the Bristol Cream Sherry produced there.

I got an extra kick by traveling down to the Sothern Coast, Cadiz and Algeciras and then hopped over to Morocco — a two hour ferry ride to Tangiers.

That boat trip was the most lovely one of my life due to the beautiful views offered of the City of Tangiers (which is laid-out on a hill, ahead as you approach the African Continent) and the miraculous company of dolphins on both sides, bobbing up and out of the water on both sides of as it ‘sails’ in.

Morocco, the Atlas , and the Sahara Desert can be added on to the same journey (given the time needed for the ensuing adventures).

Best
Andy

Thanks, Andy. I’ve already been to Morocco and it’s a bit of a different experience as a woman traveling alone, so I don’t think I’ll be going back. I’m actually down on the coast now, but I am hoping to visit Granada if I can work out transportation (which has turned out to be a bit more complicated than I thought). Cross your fingers for me.
