Beautiful Spaces: Where I Stayed in Lake Bled, Slovenia

by Gigi Griffis

Welcome back to Beautiful Spaces—a series of posts in which I talk about the places where I stay during my travels. It all started in 2013 when I realized that my contentment on the road is directly connected to how much I love where I’m living…and so made a commitment to find beautiful spaces to call home along the way. This is one such space. I received a discount on this particular stay in exchange for this review. But as always images and opinions are my own.

As you probably know by now, after my two weeks in Ljubljana, I took a short train ride and a short bicycle ride to Lake Bled, one of Slovenia’s most popular tourist destinations.

It was everything people said. A fairytale island in a big blue lake, warm water for swimming, expansive views from the castle. And on top of it all, I got to stay in an incredibly fun and interesting place: the glamping huts at Camping Bled.

hot tub

The huts, located in the campground just a five-minute walk from the lake shores, are arranged in a little village, each complete with two outdoor lounge chairs and, joyfully, a rustic little hot tub (heated by fire and with a chimney that smokes when it’s first being heated at night). I spent every night in that hot tub, even on hot days.

Huts also optionally can come with a private bathroom (which was seriously amazing with its waterfall shower option) and a picnic breakfast. Breakfast was epic every morning and included enough fruit to cover my snacks (and sometimes my lunch) all day.

It was really exactly what I imagined and hoped glamping would be. Part camping, with nature all around, picnics, and no TVs or other unnecessary distractions. And part glamour, with overflowing picnic baskets, rooms safe from bugs, and nights in a hot tub.

The only downsides (both small) were that the Wi-Fi was spotty (not a real problem since I was on a mini vacation, but note that you’ll need to head to a restaurant for a great connection) and the huts got a bit warm in the afternoons (but really you’re unlikely to be spending a bunch of time in them in the mid-afternoon anyway).

Overall, another successful stay in a beautiful place. If you’re going to Bled, I highly recommend it.

Prices for the huts start at 61 euros per night (for two people). And adding the breakfast picnic and private bathroom only costs another 20 euros per night. You can find out more here.

Planning a trip to Europe? You can see all the beautiful spaces I’ve stayed in here.

Not sure glamping is for you? Here’s a boutique hotel we stayed at in Bled on our second visit.

Gigi this looks fantastic! I truthfully am not very into camping but this looks like the perfect middle-ground (very ‘glamping’), I need to take Nico here! I am so thrilled that you like Slovenia, it is one of my favorite places in Europe and I hope more people feel inspired to visit.

Ok I opened this post thinking I was going to cringe at where you stayed, but it really looks/sounds kind of nice. I might even be able to handle something like this for a couple of nights.

[…] In Lake Bled, Luna and I bunked down at Camping Bled—a dog-friendly campsite with excellent glamping huts. […]
